Apple Announces AI Updates coming to iOS & Mac

In A Nutshell: At WWDC yesterday Apple unveiled its soon to come AI features that will be released later this year. Of course Apple had to come up with a cool marketing name; much like the Liquid Retina display or ProMotion. But with the letters AI aligning so well to Apple Intelligence, how could they not?!

Leveraging advanced generative AI, Apple Intelligence personalises tasks and simplifies everyday actions, enhancing productivity and communication for white collar professionals.

Key features include systemwide writing tools in iOS 18 & macOS Sequoia, which allow users to rewrite, proofread, and summarise text across apps like Mail, Notes and other apps. These tools enable users to craft the perfect message, whether finessing a cover letter or adding creativity to a presentation. The Rewrite feature offers multiple versions of text to suit different audiences, while the Proofread option checks grammar and suggests edits. The Summarise tool can condense text into digestible paragraphs, bulleted points, or lists, making it easier to manage large volumes of information.

Apple Intelligence also enhances email management with Priority Messages, which highlights urgent emails and provides summaries without opening them. The Smart Reply feature offers quick response suggestions and ensures all questions in an email are addressed. Additionally, Priority Notifications surface important alerts, while the new Focus mode, Reduce Interruptions, filters notifications to only those needing immediate attention, helping professionals stay focused.

For meeting and call management, Apple Intelligence allows users to record, transcribe, and summarise audio from calls, providing a summary of key points after the call ends. The new Image Playground feature enables users to create custom images for use in various apps, enhancing visual communication.

Siri receives significant upgrades, becoming more natural, contextually relevant, and personal. It can follow along if users stumble over words, maintain context across requests, and perform actions within apps based on user content. For instance, Siri can add a new address from a text message to a contact card or play a recommended podcast without the user needing to remember specifics.

Apple Intelligence promises to transform productivity and privacy for business professionals, delivering powerful, context-aware intelligence that simplifies and enhances daily tasks. These AI features will only be released to the latest iPhone 15 Pro and any iPad or Mac with an M1 or better chip.

ChatGPT, Seamlessly Integrated with Apple

Apple has announced that Siri will integrate directly with ChatGPT in iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia, enhancing responses with advanced AI capabilities. Siri will determine when to utilise ChatGPT for queries, requesting user permission to share relevant information. This integration allows Siri to leverage ChatGPT’s image and text understanding, facilitating more insightful responses when Apples AI doesn’t have the capabilities to fulfil the request.

Additionally, ChatGPT will be embedded in Apple’s new systemwide Writing Tools, aiding content generation across various writing tasks and offering image creation in diverse styles. Users can access ChatGPT’s capabilities for free, with privacy protections ensuring that requests are not logged and IP addresses are obscured. The main concern on the internet right now is how secure and private will your data being sent to OpenAI be? Elon Musk has serious concerns and even said on X.com that he would ban Apple devices from being brought in at all his companies due to the security risk.

Regardless, this seamless integration of ChatGPT into Siri and Writing Tools promises to significantly enhance productivity and creativity for business professionals, providing a powerful, privacy-conscious AI experience.
